An impressive number of exhibitors (1,900+), and an even more impressive number of attendees visited CPhI Worldwide and co-located events ICSE, P-MEC and InnoPack in Frankfurt. Even though we do not have the official numbers yet, we can say it has been an amazing and most visited CPhI Worldwide show yet!
This year's CPhI Innovation Awards showcased the high level of creativity within the pharmaceutical industry with Glycotope singled out as the gold winner for its development of GlycoExpress platform technology.
The Silver Award went to Acuros and Bronze to Johnson Matthey.
In response to the Innovation Award’s gold designation, Jens Pohl, managing director of Glycotope, says the GlycoExpress platform technology is a “game changer” which will enable the company to broaden the scope of patient coverage beyond what was possible before the technological advances it has achieved. “With the technology we have developed, we are able to reduce costs in the long-run and improve the quality and bioactivity of the drugs,” he says. “We have clear data to show that the modifications we did to the therapeutic drugs is really helping the patients, prolonging life in cancer patients.”
Helge Adleff, managing director at Acuros, describes the winning of the silver medal for its development of a solution that provides continuous delivery of small volume parental drugs as a “great honor.” “As a young start-up organization, winning this award proves that we are capable of innovation,” he says. The device was designed for the continuous delivery of small volume parenteral drugs in doses ranging from microlitres to millilitres per hour. “We have produced a disposable device which provides a reliable drug flow, which is unique,” says Adleff. “We see a lot of applications for our technology in the future and a high demand for drug delivery devices.”
Paolo Braiuca, product manager at Johnson Matthey Catalysts, which claimed the bronze award for the company’s efficient marker for protein expression, says the honor endorses the innovation within its biotechnological device. “This is a simple concept which allows us to save a significant amount of time and cost,” Braiuca says. “This enables users to focus on the chemistry rather than the automation of the chemistry.”
